What is the polite thing to do when offering a seat to an old man?
I notice that when I or others offer my seat to old men (66+) they get embarassed and politely decline. Their female counterparts are more apt to accepting a seat offer. But if you leave the seat and go somewhere else in the bus, they always take it.
What do you do when the bus is packed leaving no place to pretend to venture off in the bus? Should you still politely ask them or just stand up where you can leaving the seat empty in front of you or should you keep quiet to not embarass them?
I think it’s great that you offer old people your seat, good on you. All you can do is offer though. I just stand up, then turn to them and say “you can have my seat”. I normally get a smile and a thank you then look away really quickly.
